Ontario Hunter Education and Canadian Firearm Safety Training

To hunt in the province of Ontario, you are required to hold a valid Ontario Outdoors Card and have completed the Ontario Hunter Education course.
The Hunter Education Course by itself will allow you to hunt in Ontario with a bow or crossbow.
If you want to own a rifle or shotgun, you will need to take the Canadian Firearm Safety Course (CFSC) aka PAL Course.
To own a handgun (aka restricted firearm) you need a PAL with a Restricted endorcement.
The CFSC and RCFSC are sometimes offered as a combo course.
If you are taking a RCFSC within 30 days of taking and passing a CFSC, you can do the single day RCFSC. Call the instructor to confirm if this is an option for you.
If you want to hunt with a rifle or shotgun, you will have to have a Outdoors Card, completed the Hunter Education course, and have a PAL.
The CFSC and Hunting Ed Course are sometimes held as a 'One Stop Course'.
It is illegel to hunt with a restricted firearm in Canada.
In Canada, hunting is regulated at the provinical level. In order to hunt in a province other then Ontario, you will have to look up the rules, regualtions and laws that pretain to the jurisitiction you wish to go hunting in.
In other countries you'll have to check local laws/regulations in regards to hunting.
Some countries, provinces and states require the International Bowhunting Course to hunt with a bow (many countries consider a crossbow to be a firearm akin to a rifle or shotgun.).
To take the International Bowhunting Course in Ontario, you must have already taken and passed the Ontario Hunter Education Course.

On June 18, 2015 Bill C-42, 'the Common Sense Firearms Licensing Act' recieved royal assent.
This includes the requirement to 'Make classroom participation in Firearms Safety Courses mandatory for first-time licence applicants;'
Therefore we no long provide challenging services for those wishing to obtain a firearm's license. To obtain a firearms license, you must take the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (also known as a PAL course).
Effective January 2017 the Wild Turkey Hunting Course has been rolled into the Hunter Education course. All licenced hunters in Ontario may purchase and hunt Wild Turkey.
However if you took the Hunter Education course prior to the Turkey Course being absorbed into the Hunter Education course, it is recommended you take the Online Ontario Wild Turkey Hunting Safety Guide (free of charge).
RCMP, military or diplomatic personnel who have been POSTED in and lived in Ontario for at least 1 month and already has a valid hunting lisense from another juristiction may get a Ontario resident hunting licence.
Members who do not hold a valid hunting license are still required to take the Hunter Education course.

The Firearms Act gives you 30 days to notify the CFP of a change of address.
You are not required to take/re-take a Hunter Education course to get your firearms lisense. Some instructors exclusively offer the One-Stop (combined course) and students are mistakely lead to believe they have to take both in order to get a firearms lisense.
You can take the courses individually without the requirement to do the other course if you already have a Hunter Ed or CFSC completed.
